I’ve traveled the world. The ways I approach travel and now the ways I approach art come from a passion for discovery and knowledge. Seeing the richness of different colors, different textures and different worlds make me feel alive. They also make me know myself – the differences and similarities between cultures highlight who I am, so that in art and travel I am constantly running into myself. And I do both for joy. I bring my multicultural experiences into the studio with me.

In my twenties, I bought a one-way ticket to Europe, hitchhiked around the world and ended up living in Japan. Much later, I spent years in corporate jobs back in America. Now, I’ve rediscovered art as something I just need to do. This need comes from a very clear and personal place. I make work that I hope will make you smile or giggle. I create surreal, humorous worlds through (large-scale), mixed media pieces.

Color, texture, scale, pattern and energy fascinate me. The variety, craziness and attitude in my roosters inspire me. Using my body to create pieces that are rich in their vibrancy and detail energizes me. I am fearless in my approach. I love how alive my roosters feel and I truly enjoy bringing them to you in all their glory.

Art For me is a never ending exploration of mediums either intertwined or left on there own!
The need to create it comes from somewhere deep within my soul.
I am creative by nature, not by choice.  Creativity has chosen me.

My work will be on display at Hunters Point on Nov 3 & 4th.

Hope to see you there!

Perspective is a product of where one stands. Rodney Weiss' work has a sense of balance reflecting the interconnectedness and interdependence seen in nature and throughout our world. What makes up a flower? When examined under a microscope the very nature of the plant's structure is revealed. From far away, the whole appears greater than its parts and the details converge to create an entirely different experience. Like the principles of Yin and Yang, these complementary forces come together to form a beautiful flower. Drawing from his own experience, Rodney outlines idiosyncrasies in the world seen through his discerning eye. There is interplay between the extreme details and the bigger picture.  This polarity creates many microcosms that he invites you to explore and experience what it represents to you.

My career as an Architectural Commercial Interior Designer included choosing Fine Art collections, commissioning art works and overseeing the visual elements of each project. Today, I create my own art that I call “Dimensional Abstract Painting.” I enjoy transforming the canvas into a dimensional sculpture, sometimes left exposed where you relate to the objects, sometimes painted solid black or white focusing on shape and texture, and sometimes finished with reflective surfacing which causes the artwork to transform in response to the light. I enjoy creating custom artwork for my clients and have the flexibility to create special sizes, colors, and designs. My goal is to capture your curiosity, create interest, and stimulate your thoughts and emotions. I invite you to visit my studio, where my work is constantly evolving.

my poems emerge from the dark of you meeting i. then there is something more than light. there is life.

in this life there are people wanting secret wishes taking shape as poems; friends connecting 3000 miles of wonder and wisdom and what now’s; lovers giving each other keys to rooms they’ve always wanted to open; rain smells on sidewalks; kites shaped like swallows; squirrels; chickens; yes; no; o; oh!; children laughing as mothers underdog them on swings; men named harry and women named betty living in nursing homes writing poems for the first time in their eighty-something years of life, “well,” they say, “how about that.”

that is where magic lies, where a poet turns teacher, meets old people turned friends, and so much waiting and wanting comes alive. that, like tea-lit pumpkins on porches and thousands of fireflies looking like fallen stars over a field at night, and punctuation changing so many things, that is the stuff of my life.

if you’d like to know more about my work teaching poetry in nursing homes, visit the Institute on Aging’sCEYA Program

if you’d like to hire me to write poems at your next event, or teach poetry, contact me at [email protected]

thank you so much for your support. yours in poetry and gratitude,

silvi

As a visual artist I use printmaking techniques to layer hand-drawn images, colors and abstract shapes to create layers of meaning in a dream-like design. I use objects and images from my everyday life in San Francisco to I am extremely passionate about the design, printing process and style and believe the impressions made by Letterpress printing create a visual and tactile euphoria for the mind and body.
