ArtSpan’s Youth Open Studios program provides mentorship and exhibition opportunities for young artists to thrive alongside professional artists as participants in the city-wide SF Open Studios event. Visit Youth Open Studios sites during SF Open Studios on Saturdays, 12pm-4pm, to support the next generation of artists in San Francisco.

WHAT IS YOUTH OPEN STUDIOS?

ArtSpan's Youth Open Studios program activates youth artists to plan, promote, and host public art exhibitions as part of the citywide SF Open Studios event. Through working with Artist Mentors, attending artist professional development workshops, and visiting working artists' studios and galleries, youth are inspired to work toward their SF Open Studios Exhibition and community arts celebration.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS FOR YOUTH?

Through the Youth Open Studios program, students learn to represent themselves as legitimate artists as they work toward an exhibition deadline. Students gain public speaking skills, lessons in planning and time management, and a chance to showcase youth creativity to a vast audience of art appreciators. They will learn to host their own exhibition and present their own artwork to their communities as professional artists.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Youth who are part of afterschool programs or school art classes are eligible to participate in YOS. ArtSpan works directly with the schools and youth organizations to coordinate youth participation, adult supervision, and transportation for fieldtrips. In order to register a group, there must be 5 or more youth artists committed to participation.

HOW DO I GET MY YOUTH ARTISTS INVOLVED?

Program registration is FREE! Adult supervisors must get a commitment from at least 5 youth artists, and complete the Youth Open Studios Registration Agreement. Contact [email protected]
