My paintings are done on reclaimed wood, canvas, metals or any other surface that can deliver my images with strenght. I paint mixing traditional and contemporary media such as, oil paint and gesso, along side spray paint, paper, plastics and printing papers, ink and tape. By layering these media, I'm best able to convey my art's subject matter which draws heavily from my opinions on current affairs.  I enjoy works from Titan to the heroic and graphic power of the Comic Book form.

I have been a book seller in San Francisco for the last 28 years. During this time I have been painting portraits of people and the animals in my life--and exploring the relationships between the two. My greatest inspiration has been these observations in my daily life. Thank you for taking a look at my work.

I have recently set up my studio as a painting-only studio (had been working in other media) after having abandoned oils for more than a decade.  I gave acrylics a shot a few years ago, but I found that acrylics didn't quite satifsfy me as the oils did.  I am happy to have returned to the medium, and will have on display a handful of pieces that I've been working on for the past few weeks.  Historically, I've mostly painted portraits of fictitious characters, but am giving landscapes a shot for the first time--very minimal, with clouds as the focus.  It was my intention that these landscape "exercises" would serve to add dimension to future portrait painting, but I'm finding that I like them as they are--stark and simple.  I'm seeing some character development where no character is present, and I am excited about exploring that.

I am interested in all aspects of social information and interaction, specifically the ways in which it is created, shared and transformed. For example, the way a group of women affect one another's style of dress and the way young people develop slang and own language. I am exploring the processes by which members of these groups are realized as individuals by their interactions as family members, as friends and as co-workers.

Through my process in the studio, I am looking to replicate this social richness. Relationships between the pieces change with time. I work on many pieces simultaneously; I put some away, rework others, rearrange groups and pull pieces out again. This is happening continuously throughout the development of a body of work. I see this process as participating in the social structure of the work. Similar to the way in which groups of people may interact socially—getting together, breaking up and reforming in different groups—creating complex interactions.

What I hope to achieve is to describe the complexity of social dynamics through figurative abstractions in a way that shows the differences and connections that make up our social structures.

I agree with Paul Strand who wrote "An artist's world is limitless. It can be found anywhere, far from where he lives or a few feet away. It is always on his doorstep." It is not necessary to travel far to find interesting subjects. I enjoy shooting everyday places and objects that are transformed into abstract compositions by focusing on color, texture, and shape. We are suddenly aware of the gracefulness of a shadow or the beauty of a fire excape when we stop to look at our surroundings. For the "Abstract Portfolio", I shot scenes in extreme close-ups to draw the viewer in.
Agora Gallery wrote of my work "Jimenez' primary inspiration and the unwitting canvas for her compositions are urban landscapes.  Walls provide flat expanses of colors - whites, ochres, vivid brick red - and the walls and their angles, are bisected by windows and fire escapes, lamp posts and wires.  The extraordinary qualities in ordinary things are revealed."

I experiment with characters and screens to explore and create alternative experiences in video sculpture. My characters are pigments, fluids, and electronics on the micro scale and despite the unorthodox cast, my films follow narrative structure and are shot using established film lighting and editing techniques. The result is a collection of images and sounds which appear very similar to natural phenomena but have no scale, and therefore transcend the boundaries of their literal setting.
