Rebecca Kaufman’s practice is in the event of seeing. She constructs optical field paintings with labor-intensive repetitive processes that imply movement where there is none, engaging a physical and sometimes sonic viewing experience. Unlike the op artists of the sixties, the paintings are rife with error, suggesting rather than denying the human hand.

Utilizing the ancient technologies of painting and printmaking, she reflects on the addictive visual technologies we rely on today. These technologies prey upon bio-psychological weakness generating non-consensual engagement with socially harmful consequences.
