I have been working for several years now with cut newspaper on wood panel.  The daily newspaper's qualities make it ideal as raw material.  It marks the present in its full range of random craziness; the catastrophic mashed up against the trivial.  It's disposable, instantly obsolete, possibly on the verge of extinction, and that makes it the perfect counterpoint to my artist's quest to engage with the present and the world as it is, to evoke the deep past, and to create something hardy enough, alive enough, to nudge into a future beyond what I myself will be allowed to enter.
