As an artist and botanical enthusiast I have been influenced by both the natural world and the fantastical, especially the Voynich Manuscript, a mysterious, undeciphered manuscript dating to the 15th or 16th century. Using encaustic and mixed media I try to evoke the memory of a familiar and recognizable natural form while staying on the periphery of the identifiable. My botanical paintings are created using blowtorches, air compressors and blades. Bright vivid colors energize my paintings and I enjoy creating depth and texture with shellac and inks. The colored forms bloom on the encaustic surface and my job is to capture them in wax.
