Mark Andrew Wilson (b.1973) is a Bay Area abstract artist originally from New York. Mark works mostly with boldly colored paints on rough texture canvases and linens to represent the diverse landscape of people and the changing political landscape. What affects us effects everyone outside of our circles in much different ways. This perspective of outside opens a door to those who are challenged by being born as something they don't recognize, being of a race in a landscape largely to their disadvantage, having monies worth of value, but none of the wealth recognized by our monetary system. Movement of class boundaries, change of life due to circumstances, and the emotionally driven landscapes have been examples of Mark's use of form and color over the large surfaces he uses. The disenfranchised body politic is often recognizable in even the most abstract of Mark's works as reigning over the ill informed and largely powerless populace. Mark's awareness is informed by time spent working in politics, health care, information technology, and the banking industries. Dissociation of self and displacement to other's personas through magnified realities are informing Mark's current goals to work in video and bring some of his greater ideas to light. Mark has worked as a professional photographer for over 25 years in the Bay Area and New York City.
