Holly Coley is a teaching artist who lives and works in San Francisco. She has taught art to people of all ages at SFCC, The Crucible, Root Division, and in public schools. She is the owner of Pinckney Clay, a small ceramic art studio in Bernal Heights, SF.

When I am working in clay I am practicing self care through a physical connection with the materials and the joy of bringing my ideas into the world.

The alchemy of working with ceramic materials inspired me to look for deeper connections with spirituality and how it manifests/exist as ceremonial objects, animals and spiritual totems. Working with clay opened the possibility of creating my drawings in 3D, giving them new life. I was surprised by how much this work was influenced by my 1980s childhood, mythology and storytelling.
