My paintings draw their inspiration from the Dutch Masters, in particular Rembrandt. When I was ten years old, the Metropolitan Museum of Art acquired Rembrandt's "Aristotle Contemplating the Bust of Homer" and my father took me to see it. This experience had a profound influence on my development as an artist. I became a regular visitor at the Museum's Dutch Galleries and over the years traveled to Amsterdam, London and Paris to study paintings I had only been able to see in books. I was captivated by the visual world that Rembrandt had created, his ability to portray not only the physical aspects of a person, but their inner mind. Along with Rembrandt, I have studied Franz Hals for his brush work and Vermeer for the way he simplified form and dealt with light and shadow.
