The natural world is the basis of all my art. Over the past several years, with our lives overtaken by Covid and many tragedies in the world—including climate change—I have sought out nature as a place of peace, reflection, and solace.
I always take photos when I go on hikes or travel, focusing on details that might be easily missed or might not immediately be seen as “beautiful.” My hope is that these photos will inspire me to deconstruct and reinterpret these images to create something new and help me remember these places and moments. To do this, I apply acrylic on top of the photos, using thousands of dots and short brush strokes. This technique enables me to add a three-dimensional quality to the image.
Usually, there is no evidence of the original photo when I am done.
