Neighborhood: Bernal Heights

I turned to printmaking and book arts to create handmade books for my photography. What started as a side effort to boost my main medium, has taken over and I am primarily doing printmaking today. Specifically, linoleum blockprints. Whimsical cats started it all, fueled by the pandemic, in an effort to create smiles and something positive. My work still includes cats - there's a new series of cats in bed - but has expanded to include birds, portraits of views of Bernal Heights from my dog walks, and other subjects.

In my photography, I work primarily with film, vintage, plastic and lensless cameras and in historic and alternative processes, I select the camera, film/or not, and final print process as an extension of the intent of the imagery. This includes photopolymer gravure. My photos have been shown in group and juried exhibitions across the United States, they have won several awards and are in a few private collections, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. My work has been featured in publications such as B&W Magazine, Diffusion, Light Leaks and San Francisco Magazine and the San Francisco PBS produced program KQED Quest.

In my printmaking, I work with several kinds of presses, including a Vandercook proofing letterpress, a Takach etching press, a blockprinting hand press and my hands. All works are created on archival paper unless noted. My studio, 8 Paw Press, is located in San Francisco, California,
