I've always been fascinated by the endless variations of faces that exist. I enjoy searching for facial expressions that interest me and repurposing them as abstract marks, both spotlighting their heavy forms while suggesting characters in precarious positions between reality and abstraction. This has turned into an interest in the illusions of weight, balance and momentum in drawing, and how the changing function of lines can manipulate these illusions. In my work faces, body parts, objects and textures all work as forces that push and pull on one another. My drawings are greatly influenced by film and television, particularly horror and science fiction, and I've come to love how the imagery in these genres can so effectively explore uncertainty and anxiety.
