I transcribe and reveal the beauty of nature through intuitive calligraphy. Materials curated from refuse drive the approach of each project.
In “Seams of the Fog”, the collage under painting is composed of seeds, junk mail, plastic, foil, and cosmetics. I bury it under layers of wax and pigment. What is hidden becomes less important than what is revealed, like fog. There is a tension between the hazy uncertainty of the surface and the intentional, well-defined seams.
Besides stitching, embroidery and weaving of plastic “yarns” into my acrylic paintings, I also collage found materials onto my paintings. Beneath this joy and wonder at beauty lies a darker layer of anxiety I have for the environment.
