For many years, I created relief prints on my kitchen table, working mostly with botanical images. During a sabbatical year from my job as a bilingual literacy teacher, I studied both etching and monoprinting at Fort Mason Center for the Arts. My prints are often based on photos taken during my travels in California and abroad. My primary focus is making monoprints, made by the creation of an image on a plexiglass plate that is then run through a printing press. Rather than painting directly on the plate, I prefer to create handmade stencils to produce my images. I also enjoy creating slight variations of an image by incorporating bits of fabric and by modifying the placement of stencils on the plate.
