I create sculptural and functional ceramic objects that invite intimacy through visual and tactile richness. Most of my current work involves slip casting, a process in which liquid clay (slip) is poured into plaster molds of my original, handmade forms. This process allows me to make multiples—ranging from vases and planters to sculpture and jewelry—while exploring variations in surface design and texture, so that each piece is unique. I enjoy reinterpreting ancient artifacts and archetypal symbols and applying contemporary designs and patterns. My series of anatomical hearts are inspired by the tradition of using milagros, the symbolic charms that people offer to invoke protection, seek assistance with goals and desires, or express gratitude.
