WEEKEND 4: SOMA
NOV 2-3, NORTH
San Francisco, CA 94107
Making ceramic work is often a ritual process for me, an opportunity to be present and attend to details. Ritual is about repetition, and my current ritual involves making multiples, moving from one object to the next, exploring variations of form and surface. My surfaces are inspired by archetypal designs, patterns in nature, and things seen under the microscope.
My sculptural work has been inspired by spiritual traditions of different cultures. I am drawn to the spiritual use of physical objects, such as prayer beads, prayer wheels, and milagros — the symbolic charms that people offer to invoke protection, seek assistance with goals and desires, or express gratitude.
