Gail Williams
My art practice integrates creativity and spirituality. Most of my artwork is mixed media. I also make ceramic art, and create altar installations for community ritual.
For 2017 Open Studios I am showing work from two current projects:
“enjoyware" & "Iba'she Oshun” — Ceramic dishes for the table
I have made many Series of ceramic dishes under these two titles since 2013. The work is for sale.
Each Plate, Cup, Bowl or Platter is uniquely decorated with the same palette of underglaze colors, and similar design elements. They are finished with a clear glaze to be oven and dishwasher safe.
The primary design element is the spiral, and the project is dedicated to Oshun, female Orisha (goddess) of beauty, harmony and all enjoyments. The spiral is one of her symbols, and she is the one who instigated the whole thing.
"World of Rivers, Gratitude"
A ritual art project and work in-progress. For Open Studios 2017, an altar for reflection on fear and gratitude, and for praise and thanks to Oya, Queen of the winds of change .
