I spent a couple of years painting flowers, they come all all shapes, sizes, and colors. I saw them as the perfect subject matter in an attempt to explore color, depth, composition, and style, while keeping the subject essentially the same throughout.

The flowers are stemless. The shape and perceived angle of the flower by the viewer, causes the eye to make the connection between the vase and the flower. As we move through the world, we fill in the blanks. We speculate about the origins of things of which we know nothing about. A flower floating in space, its bulb pointing downward, towards a seemingly empty vase. The evidence is only circumstantial.
