Artist Statement
My work revolves around reminding people of the beauty of simplicity and awareness of time. In the past, people had only the essentials. They needed less and were more aware of the tiny details of life. Contrast today where we have excess and overconsumption. Often this leads me to create work that pares down an everyday objects and thoughts to a simple idea. Using the concept of slow work shows the time and detail it takes to make each piece, thus adding to its’ fragility.
My current series, Idiom, renders literally the idioms of everyday language. Phrases spoken casually without much thought as to their origin and literal expression. I remake the essence of such phrases using the simple, basic materials of linen, steel and thread.
