I work within the realist tradition, finding the historical, mythical, cultural, and personal narratives that illuminate and bind us. I am particularly interested in the ways in which the past lives in our contemporary world.
Stories are suggested in many ways—through moments of action, objects in a still life environment, a portrait subject, or unrelated visuals brought together to suggest new connections and interpretations.
Projects are sparked by a specific personal emotional connection to the subject matter. That connection evolves and expands through a series of related paintings completed over a long period of time.
