Artist Statement

After learning to screen print at a Mission District warehouse space with a garden hose and a lightbox made of spare parts, I began printing on scrap from the woodshop. As my constructions became larger and more sophisticated, I began to experiment with a process to digitally assemble and reconfigure images from point and shoot cameras into screen prints. Soon I was creating series of complex cityscapes on a variety of materials based on field photography in San Francisco.

In addition to pieces suitable for individual display and collection, my recent work ranges from several series of non archival prints on trashed cardboard, to a San Francisco postcard project in which work is mailed to participants and cataloged online, and a series of screenprinted motion pictures. Other recent projects of note include a commission on raw steel and a continuous 600 ft2 screenprinted floor and wall designed for Just Theater’s production of “Down A Little Dirt Road” by Erin Bregman, which literally enclosed the audience in the world of a play.

My approach to production draws from a traditional printmaking framework, with most pieces reproduced in editions that typically range in size from 4-50. Some series are meant to be presented as a collection or even an installation, while others function more as unique individuals. This allows for a flexible commercial approach, as it provides collectors with a wide range of opportunities to be involved with the work

I have experience leading a team of artists in executing a large, fast-paced professional commission as well as a growing track record of projects that have been displayed and sold in Bay Area galleries, businesses, and festivals.
